The next big update for Star Citizen is Alpha 3.8, which is due sometime i December 2019. This update will introduce a number of new ships and the new MicroTech planet. Unfortunately the Carrack will not make in the first iterations of the update, and is planned for February 2020.
3.8 should be introducing players to the new planet system 4.0, which will make planets more visually stunning then they already are. Planets are more realistic, better merging between biomes, and comes with a total rework of the existing no fly zones. With the new system, you should be allowed to land your vehicle everywhere.
MicroTech is a new planet, located in the Stanton system. It is a frozen planet with some spots of greenery around the equator, with it's most prominent location being New Babbage - The MicroTech headquarters. The update will also introduce heavy clothing to survive the harsh weather on MicroTech.
With Alpha 3.8, we should have the new Rest Stop Stations in place. As per citizen con, the new stations are more modular, spacious and look more like giant malls.
The next update will introduce the Prowler (March 2020) and the Cutlass Red (January 2020) to the universe, whilst the Cutlass is scheduled for February 2020. There is also the chance the new Argo Mole is flight ready and may be deployed as part of 3.8 as early as December 2019.
